"Tomorrow's Engineers" - Fantastic opportunities underway for year 9 students

On Thursday 9th June students were involved in the Tomorrow's Engineers STEM day.  Mr Lawrence arranged and a team of STEM experts to come in to school and they ran a number of engaging and enjoyable STEM based activities.

In the morning, all students had a go at three workshops:

  • "iEngineer" was a remote control robot session where teams had to choose and fit robotic attachments and then take part in a "Robot Rumble" against the other teams' robots
  • "The Drawing Board" was an engineering design challenge where students had to come up with solutions to real world engineering problems such and present back to the other group members
  • "Engineering X Factor" was a series of mini challenges that the students had to complete including iPad bridge building, "Beat the Box" and Code breaker.

The day culminated in a presentation to all the students by another outside provider and rounded off a very positively recieved, engaging and enjoyable day.  More photos are available in the  STEM section of the website:

Following on from this we will be taking a coach load of year 9 students to the regional  "Big Bang Fair Near Me" workshop and exhibition in Derby on the 30th June.  This is a regional event that will build on the great success of the national Big Bang trip earlier in the year and will be a great chance for students to get hands on with STEM skills in the context of a number of locally based but well established companies.  There are a few places remaining so anyone who has yet to return a reply slip needs to do so ASAP.

Another exciting and informative STEM opportunity not to be missed!
