Gifted & Talented Provision in Drama

In the Drama department here at Toot Hill School, we recognise students as being gifted and talented through their creative flair in either performance, directing or as a technical designer. We look for students who are able to adapt to different styles of performance, through their creation of a highly engaging and considered character or by using drama techniques in an impressive, focused and professional way. It is also key that our gifted and talented students are mature, empathetic and supportive of others in the creation and development of theatre.

In the Drama department we offer a number of opportunities for all our students, including our gifted and talented students, both in and out of lessons. These include:

  • The opportunity to take part in workshops lead by industry professionals.
  • The whole school show in which all students are invited to audition for and be involved in.
  • Shakespeare Schools festival for KS3 students.
  • The opportunity to go on trips to watch professional live theatre.
  • The chance to watch high quality performance pieces from our GCSE and A-Level students.
  • Supporting the department by becoming a Drama Ambassador.

As a team we continue to provide challenge for all students in lessons, including our gifted and talented students. We do this through some of the following ways:

  • Use of high level and effective questioning.
  • Encouragement of creative and high level thinking through carefully planned topics and lesson activities.
  • Exploring the use of student choice in facilitating higher level independent learning and engagement.
