Gifted & Talented Provision in Design & Technology

In the Design and Technology department, we believe that all students are entitled to an education that will enable them to develop their full potential, be that intellectual, physical, aesthetic, creative, emotional, spiritual or social. We also believe that all students have particular and individual needs, which must be met. Therefore it is important that as far as possible, the education of every student should be individually planned.

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, students design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Most Able and Aspiring students may only show themselves in in certain areas, therefore it is important that the Design and Technology department are aware of different learning strategies and how the planning and setting of tasks could develop these talents.

The Design and Technology department are committed to providing a curriculum that promotes independence, enquiry and collaboration and offers stretch and challenge. We encourage students to learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens, which we believe makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
