Gifted & Talented Provision in English

Identification

In English, we identify Gifted and Talented students in a variety of ways, including:

  • Teacher assessments
  • Verbal and written responses to stimulus, including contemporary and heritage texts
  • Flair and originality in Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening

Characteristics

Students who are Gifted and Talented in English are likely to show some of the following characteristics:

  • Imagination
  • Original thought
  • Empathy
  • Perception
  • Analytical skills
  • A critical approach to thinking, reading , writing and speaking
  • Independent learning skills
  • Creative approaches to reading, speaking and writing

  • Deeper critical analysis
  • Wider reading activities and reading lists

  • The opportunity to become a Subject Ambassador
  • Independent Learning Tasks
  • Differentiated class and home work tasks
  • The possibility of studying Creative Writing AS level in Year 11, where appropriate
