Expectations

Aims & Objectives

  • To maintain and stimulate pupil interest and enjoyment in physical activity, and promote exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.
  • To introduce and develop the skills, principles and understanding of physical activities as outlined in the National Curriculum.
  • To employ teaching methods and provide appropriate resources that allow all pupils, without discrimination, to have equal opportunity to experience success and enjoyment in PE.
  • To help enhance pupils’ self esteem through the development of their physical confidence and personal qualities.
  • To develop pupils’ knowledge of the rules and regulations of these activities, including the role of officials.
  • To enhance pupils’ awareness of the safety issues concerned with these activities and help them develop a sense of responsibility towards participating in physical activity.
  • To encourage teamwork, tolerance and cooperation.
  • To provide the opportunity for pupils to participate in an inclusive Inter–Form Programme of sporting activities.
  • To provide a wide range of opportunities for extracurricular sports and activities.
  • To work as an integrated unit with all sporting agencies to provide a united front in sports development in the local community.

Kit Expectations

All pupils are expected to bring appropriate kit to all PE lessons. They should pay careful attention to which activities they will be participating in.

Boys
  • PE Shirt: Plain white with collar and official PE logo.
  • Rugby shirt: Green rugby shirt with white collar, official PE logo and red stripe on inner side.
  • Shorts: One pair black (Games) and one pair white (PE) both with official PE logo - shorts must be brought to all lessons.
  • Training trousers: Plain black with official PE logo - the wearing of training trousers will depend on the activity and the weather conditions and will be at the teachers' discretion.
  • Socks: Black football socks with official Toot Hill inscription (Games) or white ankle socks (PE).
  • Footwear: Trainers (non marking soles) / football boots.
  • Other: Swimming trunks (mid thigh trunks are acceptable), white 'skin' top, shin pads
  • Optional: Mouth guard (optional but recommended).
Girls
  • PE Shirt: Plain white with collar and official PE logo.
  • Shorts: One pair black with official PE logo - shorts must be brought to all lessons.
  • Training trousers: Plain black with official PE logo - the wearing of training trousers will depend on the activity and the weather conditions and will be at the teachers' discretion.
  • Leggings: Plain black with discreet logo. 
  • Sweatshirt: Grey (hooded) with official PE logo.
  • Socks: White football socks with official Toot Hill inscription (Games) or white ankle socks (PE).
  • Footwear: Trainers (non marking soles) / football boots.
  • Other: Swimming costume, white 'skin' top, shin pads
  • Optional: Mouth guard (optional but recommended)

Pupils are made aware of the department’s expectations on kit at the start of each term/unit.

  • All pupils will also need a carrying bag for their PE kit and a plastic bag is recommended for carrying dirty boots.
  • Except in the case of serious injury, all pupils are expected to come to PE lessons prepared to take part in some physical activity. If pupils have minor ailments they should bring a note from home explaining this and still bring their kit to take part appropriately.
  • Pupils who fail to bring appropriate PE kit for their lesson will be provided with clean garments to ensure full participation in the lesson.
